Smoothies have become the main food for those who eat healthily and we have to agree that they are easy to make, full of fruits and vegetables and ready in a few seconds. However, not all smoothies are the same. In fact, many store-bought smoothies are full of excess sugar and calories.

Is it healthy to have a smoothie for breakfast?

You can eat smoothies as a healthy breakfast if you have good nutrients – including protein, carbohydrates and healthy fats. Smoothies that rely heavily on vegetables over fruits instantly reduce sugar and increase fiber content. You also want to avoid adding a lot of fruit juice and sweeteners, such as syrups and honey in order to limit sweet things. Adding yogurt and protein powder helps make smoothies fuller, so you’ll stay fuller longer. Just make sure you choose a variety of foods that have little or no added sugar and have zero artificial ingredients. The liquid bases you use in the smoothie also play a big role. Skip fruit juices that are full of sugar and lack protein and fat, and choose low-fat milk or unsweetened milk, such as almonds, coconut or cashews. Some vegetable milks have less protein than cow’s milk, but offer healthy fats to satiate.

Is it healthy to have a smoothie every day?

If you want to use your blender and start making smoothies at home, you are already one step ahead of saving money and ensuring complete control over what goes into your drink. Enjoying a smoothie on a daily basis is perfectly fine if you make sure it has a good balance of nutrients. And if you want your smoothie to become a meal, try to add at least 25 grams of protein, if it is a snack, take at least 10 grams of protein. These delicious, healthy sweets make it easy for you to eat fruit, milk, protein, immune-boosting yogurt and other nutrients – and are great for weight loss.

Note: Some of these recipes contain fruit juice or honey to improve sweetness, but if you want to get the added sugar out of your diet, you can remove those ingredients. Try these smoothies and other different recipes in the app.
